Job summary

Respawn Entertainment in Los Angeles, CA seeks an experienced Senior EncounterDesigner for a 12-month onsite contract in a hybrid role. You will collaborate with Design leadership, Animation, Code, and Art to craft next-gen Star Wars encounters with technical depth in UE5.

Candidates bring 4+ years in game design, scripting, and engine tools, with a passion for fun, challenging gameplay. You'll own encounter systems, solve complex problems, and share knowledge across teams.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in the games industry in roles such as Scripter, Encounter Designer, Level Designer or Mission Designer, shipping at least one title.
• Experience with text-based scripting, visual scripting, and/or programming languages.
• Passion for building fun gameplay-driven encounters, moments and experiences.
• Strong understanding of engine tools and pipelines (UE4/5, Unity, Maya) and ability to communicate across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Work with Design leadership and multiple teams to bring Star Wars adventure to life.
• Create memorable, imaginative, and challenging Combat Encounters and own their technical implementation in UE5.
• Leverage AI cast to create moments that feel greater than the sum of their parts.
• Solve a variety of technical and creative problems efficiently.
• Become an expert on encounter and AI systems and mentor others.
