Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Houston is seeking an Application Engineer to develop software applications used by electrical utilities to monitor, study, optimize, control, and simulate power networks, smart grid systems, and distributed energy resources. You will work on highly available, scalable, and reliable power systems software that supports transmission and distribution networks relied on every day.

You will design, develop, test, review, and maintain applications that help utility operators improve

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; Ph.D. aPlus.
• Experience in software development, debugging, and performance tuning desirable.
• Solid knowledge of power system studies, modeling, simulation, optimization, and numerical methods.
• Familiarity with EMS applications such as load flow, state estimation, operator training simulators.
• Proficiency in programming languages (C#, C/C++, Java, Python, FORTRAN) and Linux/Windows environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, review, and maintain power systems applications with reliability in mind.
• Build software that supports electrical utility operations, smart grid capabilities, and DER use cases.
• Collaborate with team on planning, development, and testing to meet definitions of done.
• Apply power system studies, modeling, simulation, optimization, and numerical methods to development.
• Support EMS-related applications such as load flow, contingency evaluation, and state estimation.
