Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Houston, TX is seeking an Application Engineer to develop software for power networks and grid optimization. You will design, test, and maintain applications used by electricity utilities to monitor and control systems.

The role blends software development with power systems knowledge across EMS, modeling, simulation, and data standards, using languages like C#, C/C++, Java, Python, or FORTRAN in Linux and Windows environments.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, CS, or related field; PhD a plus.
• Experience in software development, debugging, and performance tuning.
• Solid knowledge of power system studies, modeling, simulation, and optimization.
• Proficiency with C#, C/C++, Java, Python, or FORTRAN; Linux/Windows development.
• Work authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, review, and maintain power systems software.
• Build applications supporting utility operations and DER use cases.
• Collaborate with teams to meet definition of done.
• Apply studies, modeling, simulation, and numerical methods to development.
• Ensure EMS-related applications like load flow, state estimation, simulators.
• Identify issues, risks, and quality concerns, then resolve them with the team.
• Contribute to retrospectives and continuous improvement.
• Work across Linux and Windows environments with relevant tools.
• Ensure compliance with external and internal regulations.
