Job summary

The City of Houston is seeking a Senior Employee Relations Specialist to lead and support HR practices that foster a positive work environment, advise leadership, investigate concerns, and ensure compliance across departments.

Responsibilities include coaching managers, reviewing corrective actions, handling grievances, conducting investigations, supporting ADA accommodations, and delivering trainings on HR policies and EEOC processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • Minimum three years of professional HR experience.
  • Experience with employee relations, investigations, and HR policy administration.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong working relationships across departments to promote collaboration and communication.
  • Coach and advise managers on corrective action strategies that support employee success.
  • Review and process recommendations to ensure fairness, consistency, and compliance.
  • Prepare HR documentation including reports, correspondence, and case summaries.
  • Manage grievances and employee concerns with adherence to timelines and procedures.
  • Conduct investigations into misconduct and recommend outcomes.
  • Represent the department in hearings and appeals as needed.
  • Develop and interpret HR procedures to support efficiency and compliance.
  • Deliver training on HR policies, updates, and best practices.
  • Coordinate responses to EEOC complaints and assist with ADA accommodations.
