Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an Employee Relations Manager to lead the Employee Relations team, drive consistent execution, and strengthen leader capability. The role will leverage data insights to inform decision-making and mitigate risk at the organization level.

The ideal candidate will have extensive HR experience with a focus on investigations, performance management, and policy application across a large, multi-location organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive HR experience with focus on employee relations, investigations, and risk management
  • Experience managing complex, high-risk employee relations matters including investigations and policy violations
  • Proven ability to coach and influence leaders at multiple levels including senior leaders and HR Business Partners
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and compliance
  • Experience in a large, multi-location or decentralized organization
  • Deep expertise in employee relations practices including investigations, discipline, performance management, and conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulatory requirements
  • Understanding of HR policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks
  • Understanding of organizational dynamics in decentralized, project-based environments
  • Knowledge of employee relations data and analytics for trend interpretation
  • Familiarity with integrated HR operating models across HRBPs, COEs, legal and security
  • Active listening and strong communication including openness to diverse input
  • Ability to travel up to 15%

Responsibilities

  • Lead a high performing Employee Relations team with coaching, direction, and support while building capability across investigations, case management, and leader consulting
  • Establish and optimize team operating model and discipline through clear roles and workload prioritization
  • Oversee consistent, timely, and high-quality delivery of investigations, performance management, discipline, and policy application
  • Own and evolve Employee Relations standards, processes, and governance to ensure compliance and alignment with organizational needs
  • Lead complex and high-risk Employee Relations matters at executive levels and as a trusted escalation point
  • Serve as strategic advisor to leaders and HRBPs to navigate workforce issues and drive sound decision-making
  • Lead use of Employee Relations data to identify trends and inform HR and business decisions
  • Maintain deep expertise on ER trends, regulatory developments, and legal updates; translate into policy and enterprise strategy
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, and leadership to manage organizational risk on high-risk matters
