Job summary

The City of Houston is seeking a Senior Employee Relations Specialist to support a broad array of HR activities, acting as a trusted advisor on employee relations matters and ensuring fairness, compliance, and care across the organization.

You will lead investigations, coach managers, review corrective actions, and prepare HR documentation while coordinating ADA accommodations and EEOC responses. This role emphasizes collaboration and policy implementation.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Social Science, Liberal Arts, or a closely related field.
• Three years of related professional experience in human resources are required. Pertinent experience at the professional level may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a wide range of employee relations activities across departments.
• Coach and advise managers on corrective action strategies that support employee success.
• Review and process corrective action recommendations for fairness, consistency, and compliance.
• Prepare and refine HR documentation including reports, correspondence, and case summaries.
• Manage grievances and employee concerns adhering to timelines and procedures.
• Conduct thorough investigations into misconduct and recommend outcomes.
• Represent the department in Appeals and Unemployment Hearings.
• Develop and interpret HR procedures to support efficiency and regulatory compliance.
• Deliver training on HR policies, updates, and best practices.
• Coordinate responses to EEOC complaints and ADA accommodations.
