Job summary

Actalent is actively seeking an embedded software engineer to lead architecture and delivery of complex software for military and defense imaging systems. You will own subsystems from concept to deployment, guide junior engineers, and collaborate with hardware, FPGA, and verification teams.

The role requires hands-on C/C++ in FreeRTOS/Embedded Linux environments, and experience with AMD/Xilinx MPSoC platforms. Onsite in Melbourne, FL with a strong emphasis on quality and schedule adherence.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional embedded software development experience.
• Strong hands-on programming in C and C++, with Embedded C++ focus.
• Experience in FreeRTOS, Embedded Linux, Ubuntu, and Bare Metal environments.
• Experience with modern embedded processors/SoCs (AMD/Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC).
• Experience with AMD Vitis or similar tools.
• Experience developing and debugging low-level drivers and hardware interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, RS-232, GPIO, Ethernet).
• Strong TCP/IP networking knowledge and embedded protocols.
• Hardware/software integration, lab debugging, and board bring-up.
• Familiarity with GitLab, Jira, Confluence, and software config management.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and technical leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, integration, testing, and sustainment of embedded software components.
• Own software architecture decisions and technical execution for subsystems.
• Develop software for AMD/Xilinx MPSoC and SoC platforms.
• Design and implement software for Bare Metal, FreeRTOS, and Embedded Linux environments.
• Develop and debug low-level drivers and interfaces.
• Integrate software with FPGA, hardware, sensors, and displays.
• Lead hardware/software integration activities and root-cause analysis.
• Mentor junior engineers and conduct code reviews.
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, verification teams to meet objectives.
• Use GitLab, Jira, Confluence, and Vitis for development and coordination.
