Job summary

Hypertherm Associates in Hanover, NH seeks a Senior Staff Software Engineer to design embedded software for plasma cutting systems. You will develop firmware for subsystems, write device drivers, and create real-time control features on RTOS platforms while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

You will ensure software quality through testing, review tools like Git, and contribute to scalable, reliable systems.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field, plus 10–12 years of relevant experience.
• Proficiency with C/C++.
• Understanding of object-oriented development.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles and configuration management processes, including defect and version tracking tools such as Git, GitHub, and Atlassian products.
• Understanding of real-time software concerns like multi-threading and concurrency.
• Knowledge and understanding of network protocols, including TCP and UDP.
• Experience with RTOS-based microcontrollers.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Build embedded software solutions for plasma cutting systems, including firmware for embedded subsystems and software tools for supporting development and test.
• Perform all aspects of software development. This includes, but is not limited to, requirements and specifications, design and development, coding and debugging, testing, and integration of embedded devices and systems.
• Write device drivers for various sensors and other small peripherals.
• Develop features for RTOS-based real-time control systems.
• Support hardware/software integration and software validation.
• Work and interface with cross-functional design teams.
• Analyze and enhance efficiency, stability, and scalability of system resources.
• Develop standardized industrial communication interfaces that connect plasma systems with automation platforms.
• Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes.
• Build software solutions by using industry standards and best practices.
