Job summary

nou Systems, Inc. in Huntsville, Alabama is seeking a Senior Embedded Engineer to join the Advanced Sensing Area. This hands-on role covers hardware and software from architecture through verification and prototype builds, collaborating across programs in missile defense and related fields.

You will develop FPGA designs (Verilog/SystemVerilog), write embedded C/C++ firmware, design PCBs, and bring up hardware in the lab with test equipment, while meeting security and citizenship requirements.

Qualifications

• You must have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related STEM field.
• You will need 5+ years of full-time professional experience in embedded systems, FPGA, or electronics hardware engineering.
• Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout for multilayer and high-speed designs (Altium).
• You will need proficiency in C or C++ for embedded development.
• You must possess or be able to obtain an active Secret clearance.
• US citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Define embedded system architectures for prototype hardware and select processors, FPGAs, and components.
• Independently own embedded engineering tasks and validate results.
• Develop FPGA designs in Verilog/SystemVerilog and write RTL/testbenches.
• Design PCBs from schematic to layout, ensure power/signal integrity and manufacturability.
• Develop embedded software and firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers, RTOS, or embedded Linux.
• Bring up and debug hardware with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, and in-system debug tools.
• Interface embedded hardware with sensors, RF, data converters, Ethernet, PCIe, SPI, I2C, UART.
• Plan tests, write test plans, and document results for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with teams, mentor engineers, and contribute to proposals and white papers.
