Job summary

nou Systems, Inc. in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Senior Embedded Engineer to own end-to-end embedded work across hardware and software for defense-focused programs. You will architect prototypes, design boards, write firmware and RTL, and verify hardware with lab testing.

The role requires 5+ years in embedded systems with FPGA/ASIC work, C/C++ proficiency, and an active Secret clearance or eligibility. Expected to collaborate across programs in a hands-on environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related STEM field.
• 5 years of full-time experience in embedded systems, FPGA, or electronics hardware engineering.
• Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout for multilayer high-speed designs (Altium).
• Proficiency in C or C++ for embedded development.
• Active Secret clearance eligibility or possession; U.S. citizen.

Responsibilities

• Define embedded system architectures for prototype hardware and select processors, FPGAs, and components.
• Independently own embedded tasks and validate results before release.
• Develop FPGA designs in VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog, build simulations, and integrate vendor IP cores.
• Design PCBs from schematic to layout, including power, signal integrity, and manufacturability.
• Develop embedded software/firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers, processors, and SoCs.
• Bring up and debug hardware using oscilloscopes, JTAG, and in-system debug tools.
• Interface embedded hardware with sensors, RF front ends, data converters, and interfaces like Ethernet, PCIe, SPI, I2C, UART.
• Plan and execute test/verification of prototype hardware; develop Python tools for test automation.
• Iterate designs using test results and maintain configuration control and build quality.
• Use AI-enabled tools for coding and verification while following security/data-handling rules.
• Brief internal teams and mentor early-career engineers; contribute to proposals and white papers.
