Company Overview

AOSense, Inc. is a leading developer and manufacturer of innovative quantum technologies employing atom optics. Our devices use frequency-stabilized lasers and atoms in a vacuum cell to measure accelerations, rotations, magnetic fields, and time with unparalleled accuracy and stability. Our staff includes physicists and engineers with expertise across various disciplines. Our teams are dynamic and fast-paced, as our hardware is cutting-edge.

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on embedded systems engineer to create system controllers for fieldable atom-optic (AO) sensors such as gyroscopes, accelerometers, gravimeters, and related devices. The control hardware spans technologies including low-noise analog, digital, rf/microwave, high voltage, microcontrollers, SoCs, FPGAs, and ASICs. An ideal candidate will have a broad background in developing code for these diverse technologies. As a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer, you will collaborate with scientists and engineers to specify sensor control hardware, develop, test, debug, and maintain gateware, firmware, and software, primarily in embedded C, and work on GUIs for sensor operation. You will help guide the development of future quantum-atomic devices transitioning from lab to field.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to specify instrument control requirements
  • Develop mixed-signal embedded system architectures with electrical engineers
  • Develop firmware and gateware for hardware interfaces (digital and analog I/O), data analysis, storage, and communication protocols (SPI, I2C, USB, TCP/IP, RS-232)
  • Integrate embedded controllers with GUIs
  • Follow code development standards, archiving, and version control
  • Establish and execute code testing and evaluation procedures
  • Document device control including requirements, design, code, user manuals, and online help
  • Contribute to proposals for sensor development and applications

Requirements

  • Expertise in developing code for devices employing microcontrollers and Xilinx Zynq SoCs
  • Experience selecting architectures for complex electronic instrumentation
  • Proficiency in real-time embedded C firmware development (preferably for 32-bit ARM microcontrollers)
  • Comfort with mixed-signal I/O and protocols such as SPI, I2C, USB, TCP/IP, RS-232
  • Familiarity with development tools and interpreting electronics schematics and datasheets
  • Experience defining test plans for control electronics
  • Hands-on skills with diagnostic equipment (oscilloscopes, analyzers)
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required for U.S. Government contracts

Desired Experience

  • FPGA-based real-time measurement systems (VHDL or Verilog)
  • Development in RTOS environments, including PetaLinux
  • Embedded networking/webservers
  • Experience with C#, Python, Go, Rust

Education

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or doctorate in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science, with 5+ years of related experience or equivalent professional experience.

Benefits

  • Annual salary between $150k and $250k, depending on qualifications and experience
  • Medical and dental coverage
  • Retirement plan
  • Stock plan
