Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a Senior Embedded Software/Hardware Engineer to own high-ownership projects at customer sites.

You will select and harden the industrial PC and Linux platform, build imaging, provisioning, fleet updates, and integrate with BACnet/Modbus in modern facilities.

Requires 5-8+ years in embedded systems, strong Linux, Python and/or C/C++, plus familiarity with OT security practices; hybrid work with 3 days onsite.

Qualifications

• 5–8+ years in embedded systems or edge/IoT.
• Strong Linux skills and Python and/or C/C++.
• Familiarity with BACnet/Modbus protocols is a plus.

Responsibilities

the company designs, builds, and operates clean energy systems, geothermal, solar, and building energy efficiency, for commercial and institutional buildings. A growing share of our work is managing geothermal cooling assets at data centers.

We're hiring an owner for Brightcore EDGE, an on-prem industrial PC that runs our control and optimization algorithms directly at customer sites, including data center facilities where real-time energy management is mission-critical. You'd select and harden the industrial PC and Linux platform, build the imaging, provisioning, and fleet-update process, integrate with building management systems over BACnet and Modbus (Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens), build the local time-series data logging and telemetry pipeline, and implement OS hardening, disk encryption, and network segmentation to satisfy OT security reviews at high-security sites.

Reports directly to our VP of Innovation. Looking for 5-8+ years in embedded systems, industrial controls, or edge/IoT, strong Linux, Python and/or C/C++, and some BACnet/Modbus background. It's a high-ownership, spec-it-and-build-it role, you'll be buying hardware and shipping working prototypes without a lot of process overhead.
