Job summary

ABB is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer – Power Electronics to design and implement embedded software and control solutions for power conversion and motor control. You will lead analyses, modeling, and testing to boost performance and reliability within a cross-functional team.

The role requires deep software expertise, experience with modern control theory, and collaboration across disciplines. Hybrid work in New Berlin, WI supports the R&D Motion Drive Products Division.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate in CS/related field with 4+ years in R&D embedded software.
• Strong C/C++ proficiency for microprocessors and DSPs.
• Experience with low-level embedded development concepts (debugging tools, emulators, build tools, VCS, scripting).
• Demonstrated control algorithm design for power conversion or motor control systems.
• Knowledge of modern control theory (observers, estimators, filtering).
• Experience in software architecture and embedded controller software documentation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement embedded software and advanced control algorithms for power conversion and motor control.
• Lead complex analysis, modeling, simulation, and testing to improve performance and reliability.
• Collaborate across engineering to define software architecture and troubleshoot issues from concept to delivery.
• Act as a technical expert and stay current with emerging technologies to guide engineering direction.
