Job summary
ABB Drive Products in New Berlin, Wisconsin, is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer – Power Electronics to design embedded software and advanced control algorithms for power conversion and motor control applications.
You will lead complex analysis, modeling, testing, and collaborate across engineering disciplines to deliver high-performance, reliable industrial solutions while staying current with emerging technologies and best practices. Hybrid work arrangements available.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 8+ years in an R&D environment or Master's with 6+ years or Doctorate with 4+ years, embedded systems focus.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ for microprocessors and DSP-based development.
- Experience with low-level embedded development concepts, debugging tools, emulators, build tools, version control, and scripting.
- Experience designing and implementing control algorithms for power conversion, active converters, and/or motor control systems.
- Knowledge of modern control theory, observers, estimators, and filtering techniques.
- Experience developing software architecture and embedded controller software; strong technical documentation skills.
- Knowledge of power electronics components and topologies; understanding of power quality and harmonic mitigation.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement embedded software and advanced control algorithms for power conversion and motor control applications.
- Lead complex analysis, modeling, simulation, and testing to improve performance and reliability.
- Collaborate across engineering disciplines to define software architecture and support product delivery.
- Serve as a technical expert and stay current on emergent technologies to strengthen ABB's direction.
