Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Northridge, CA seeks a Staff Embedded Software Engineer to define and lead RTOS-based architectures for mission-critical weapon systems. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure determinism, safety, and high performance on embedded platforms.

The role requires strong C/C++ skills, real-time design experience, and a DoW Secret clearance. On-site work is required with limited travel and a clear path for technical leadership and mentorship.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer/Electrical/Aerospace Engineering with extensive embedded software experience.
• Proven software architect or technical lead for embedded systems.
• Expertise with RTOS (VxWorks, ThreadX, FreeRTOS, Green Hills INTEGRITY).
• Experience developing and troubleshooting low-level embedded software.
• Experience designing multi-threaded, real-time systems with strict constraints.
• Strong C/C++ skills; comfortable with Java, Python, or C#.
• Current US Government DoW Secret clearance or ability to obtain SAP clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead architectures for RTOS-based embedded devices and systems (multi-core, distributed nodes).
• Design, code, test, and debug system software including low-level drivers and bring-up.
• Create HAL and OSAL layers for portability across platforms.
• Define and enforce architecture, coding standards, and design patterns across teams.
• Lead RTOS integration (VxWorks) ensuring deterministic scheduling and IPC.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across disciplines.
