Job summary

Quest Defense Systems and Solutions in Phoenix, AZ seeks an Embedded Software Engineer to develop and integrate software that controls RF transmit/receive systems. This hands-on role combines C/C++, Python, RF hardware, FPGA/firmware, and laboratory testing to characterize system performance, calibration, and troubleshooting. Location: Phoenix, Arizona.

On-site preferred, 3+ days/week; Citizenship: U.S. Person.

Qualifications

• 5-15 years of embedded software and hardware/software integration experience.
• Strong C and C++ development skills.
• Experience interfacing embedded or FPGA software with RF or mixed-signal hardware.
• Understanding of RF transmit/receive chains, calibration, and temperature compensation.
• Ability to configure hardware via low-level interfaces and interpret datasheets.
• Strong Python skills for test automation and data analysis.
• Experience debugging across software, FPGA/firmware, and hardware.
• Hands-on lab work with RF/test equipment and measurement.
• Familiarity with DO-178B/C or comparable requirements-based development.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain RFIO software interfacing embedded software/FPGA with RF hardware.
• Develop C/C++ software to configure, control, monitor, and characterize RF devices.
• Implement multi-channel transmitter control including beamforming and power leveling.
• Develop receiver calibration techniques for gain, phase, and temperature compensation.
• Integrate RF hardware with FPGA/firmware, embedded software, and system components.
• Interpret datasheets and develop register/configuration interfaces.
• Develop Python tests and automation for lab equipment and RF testing.
• Laboratory integration, characterization, troubleshooting, and debugging.
• Diagnose cross-domain issues among software, FPGA/firmware, RF, and hardware.
• Collaborate across RF, FPGA, hardware, systems, and software teams.
• Follow disciplined software processes for requirements, verification, and configuration management.
