Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Principal Embedded Platform Software Engineer in Cedar Rapids, IA for an onsite role. You will lead the design, development, and integration of foundational software enabling secure, deterministic operation of avionics platforms.

You will guide architecture across programs, mentor engineers, and collaborate with systems, hardware, and verification teams to ensure cohesive platform behavior and robust software delivery.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with 8+ years of experience, or an Advanced Degree with 5+ years of experience.
• Experience with embedded C/C++ development and scripting for automation.
• Experience with embedded RTOS environments and BSP integration.

Responsibilities

• Lead program-level technical strategy for embedded platform software, including secure boot and early-boot initialization.
• Guide system architecture and review software designs for technical soundness.
• Oversee integration and evaluation of supplier-provided bootloaders and BSP components.
• Produce design artifacts, test procedures, and integration guides.
• Mentor engineers (P1–P3) and drive cross-team collaboration.
