Job summary

Bonsai Robotics, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Embedded Platform to own the Yocto-based OS, OTA updates, fleet provisioning, and observability for our field hardware.

You’ll bridge Linux systems from boot to cloud dashboards and collaborate with firmware and autonomy teams to push reliable updates across multiple compute platforms. Ideal candidates have strong embedded Linux experience, Rust/C/C++, Python, and a track record building scalable device management and CI/CD for ARM64

Qualifications

• Strong CS fundamentals and systems fluency.
• 5+ years of industry experience in embedded Linux, infrastructure, or robotics platform engineering.
• Experience with Yocto/OpenEmbedded, Buildroot, or custom BSP.
• Hands-on OTA update systems including A/B partitioning, atomic updates, and rollback.
• Fleet device management at scale with provisioning, remote configuration, and secrets management.

Responsibilities

• Own OTA updates end to end across the fleet — image build, signing, rollout, rollback, and delivery to Linux compute modules and CAN-connected controllers.
• Own fleet management infrastructure — device identity, provisioning, configuration and secrets management.
• Build observability stack for a distributed fleet — telemetry, metrics, logs, health signals, dashboards, and alerts.
• Own the OS layer — Yocto BSP maintenance, kernel and device tree config, services, boot and recovery paths.
• Design and maintain build/release infrastructure for embedded targets — cross-compilation, CI/CD, artifact management, release pipelines.
• Collaborate with firmware, autonomy, and field operations teams across multiple robot form factors.
• Be ready to bring up new hardware and tooling as needed in a growing team.
