Collins Aerospace is seeking a Principal Software Engineer in El Segundo, CA to lead embedded Linux development across radios and secure comms. You will work with FPGA, hardware and systems teams to embed advanced tech into mission systems.

You design and maintain Linux OS, kernel, BSPs and device drivers, and prepare builds for simulation and on‑target hardware. Requires STEM degree, 8+ years or 5+ with advanced degree, and active security clearance.

Qualifications

• STEM degree with 8+ years experience or advanced degree with 5+ years.
• Active, transferable U.S. government security clearance required.
• U.S. citizenship required for security clearance.
• Proficiency with embedded C/C++.
• Scripting with Bash and Python.
• Experience with embedded Linux device drivers.
• Experience with board bring-up and hardware integration.
• Experience debugging with logic analyzers and Wireshark.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and enhance our Linux OS ecosystem and BSP for multiple hardware boards.
• Contribute to design, coding, testing and delivery of embedded Linux software.
• Perform root cause analysis and resolve complex hardware–software issues.
• Prepare software builds for simulation, reference platforms and target hardware.
• Follow Collins Aerospace processes to improve product quality and customer satisfaction.
• Contribute to engineering estimates for new program pursuits.
