Job summary

Rivian seeks a Sr. Embedded Software Engineer to lead the development of next‑generation charging products. You will architect full‑stack embedded Linux solutions, from BSP and kernel drivers to Yocto distributions and automated CI/CD pipelines.

You will bridge hardware enablement and cloud‑ready applications, ensuring secure, scalable platforms for large‑scale manufacturing and electric vehicles. Strong lows‑level Linux skills and curiosity are essential.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 4+ years of industry experience developing C/C++ based applications on embedded Linux.
• 2+ years of experience with build tools such as Make and CMake.
• Strong scripting and automation skills using Bash or Python.
• Deep experience in microcontroller development with I2C, SPI, UART, and SDIO.
• Experience with implementing CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, etc.
• A proven passion for low‑level Linux development and a "CLI‑first" mindset.
• The stamina to navigate 6,000+ page SoC reference manuals without hesitation.

Responsibilities

• Core Platform & BSP Architecture: define BSP development lifecycle, bootloader customization, Linux kernel tuning for ARM.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers for board bring-up, signal integrity, power management.
• Develop and maintain high‑performance kernel drivers and Device Trees for peripherals.
• Yocto & Build System Leadership: architect modular Yocto/OpenEmbedded layers across hardware variants.
• Implement Bitbake techniques to reduce build times and ensure reproducible releases.
• Build cross-compilation toolchains and QEMU environments for hardware‑less development.
• Automation First DevOps & CI/CD: design CI/CD pipelines to automate image generation and licensing checks.
• Create automated testing rigs that flash builds and run tests without human intervention.
