Job summary

Ursa Major, based in Colorado, seeks a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain flight software powering engines, vehicles, and avionics. You’ll join a small, high-impact team delivering reliable, safe, and high-performance software for aerospace applications.

The role emphasizes collaboration, rigorous debugging, and documentation, with exposure to hardware integration and CI/CD practices. A strong emphasis on problem-solving and growth is evident.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or related field
• 4+ years of professional experience in embedded C/C++ development for ARM, SoC, or FPGA softcore platforms
• Hands-on experience with hardware interface programming (timers, interrupts, communication protocols, ADCs, etc.)
• Proficiency reading schematics and debugging with hardware tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)
• Experience using version control systems such as Git
• Ability to work effectively in both independent and collaborative settings, managing multiple priorities
• Desirable: Experience with RTCA DO-178
• Desirable: Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW
• Desirable: Exposure to continuous integration, automated build/test, and hardware-in-the-loop systems
• Desirable: Understanding of FPGA development and HDL
• Desirable: Experience with RTOS and/or Linux-based embedded systems
• Desirable: Familiarity with controls engineering (sensors, actuators, and motors)

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software for avionics throughout the product lifecycle
• Develop and maintain ground support software tools and systems
• Collaborate cross-functionally to define and deliver new software features
• Document designs, code, and procedures to ensure maintainability and compliance
• Debug, optimize, and support software and hardware integration efforts
