Job description

Micron Technology Inc. is a world leader in semiconductor manufacturing. The Systems Integration Group designs and manufactures internal equipment that gives Micron a competitive edge in the marketplace. The Equipment Software Design team is seeking an embedded firmware engineer to develop software that runs on bare metal and embedded Linux as well as higher‑level interface software.

Responsibilities
  • Develop new and modify existing equipment in cross‑discipline design teams (software, electrical, control, and mechanical engineers).
  • Write code in C, C++, Bash, and Python on bare‑metal and RHEL‑compatible Linux distros in containers.
  • Collaborate with New Product Introduction and Operations teams during the manufacturing of equipment.
  • Lead innovative projects that create solutions no other company offers.
  • Improve existing designs and provide manufacturing and production support.
  • Perform hands‑on work with electronics, computers, and in‑house and third‑party lab equipment.
  • Debug software‑hardware interactions using schematics, layout plots, datasheets, and lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, SMUs) to root‑cause system‑level issues.
  • Work with a geographically distributed design team in Boise, Idaho; San Jose, California; Penang, Malaysia; and Hyderabad, India.
  • Collaborate closely with software, electrical, mechanical, and control engineers in the design and development of next‑generation memory testers.
  • Use lab equipment, schematics, and layout drawings for design bring‑up and testing; write technical documents and communicate results.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of embedded software development tightly coupled to custom hardware.
  • Strong proficiency in C and C++.
  • Demonstrated ability to read schematics and trace hardware/software interfaces during debug.
  • Working knowledge of analog and mixed‑signal circuits sufficient to understand signal paths, measurement techniques, and common failure modes.
  • Hands‑on experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, and power supplies to debug real systems.
  • Comfortable debugging issues that span firmware, board‑level electronics, and electromechanical interactions.
  • Experience and/or interest in Agentic AI code development and incorporating Agentic workflows into current or future processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in embedded software interfacing with hardware.
  • Proficiency in Python and Bash.
  • Proficiency in Linux and the GNU tool chain.
  • Ability to explain and debug analog front‑ends, ADC/DAC paths, and common noise/grounding issues.
  • Experience programmatically interfacing with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, SMUs) for calibration.
  • Experience with Linux device interaction, drivers, or kernel‑level debugging.
  • Familiarity with PCIe software and hardware layers.
Benefits
  • Choice of medical, dental, and vision plans in all locations.
  • Benefit programs that protect income if unable to work due to illness or injury, plus paid family leave.
  • Robust paid time‑off program and paid holidays.
  • Additional benefits information available in the Micron Benefits Guide posted on micron.com/careers/benefits.
