Micron Technology Inc. is seeking an embedded firmware engineer for the Equipment Software Design team to build software from bare metal to embedded Linux, interfacing with hardware in semiconductor equipment.
This role emphasizes debugging real hardware, lab measurements, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on work with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and schematics in Boise, Idaho, and other sites.
Micron Technology Inc. is a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing. The Systems Integration Group designs and manufactures internal equipment to give Micron a competitive edge in the marketplace.
Our Equipment Software Design team is looking to hire a driven embedded firmware engineer. This engineer will build embedded software running on bare metal to embedded Linux as well as higher level interface software. You will work with other software engineers and other engineering disciplines to create custom in‑house semiconductor equipment from the ground up. This role requires deep understanding of hardware and system behavior to design, debug, and optimize software that directly controls custom electronic systems.
Successful candidates for this role do more than write embedded code—they can reason about how complex electronic circuits behave, use lab measurements to validate assumptions, and work side‑by‑side with electrical engineers to root‑cause system issues. If your experience is primarily application software or firmware development without deep hardware debug, this role is likely not a fit. This role is best suited for engineers who have personally debugged real hardware in the lab; coursework exposure, only debugging to the HAL or limited schematic familiarity alone is not enough.
If you like making things work, working in a lab, and overcoming the challenges that arise from integrating multiple complex systems, you’ll enjoy this role.
