Job summary

Brooks Automation in Chelmsford, MA or Austin, TX seeks a Senior Embedded Software & Controls Engineer to develop next-generation levitation-based motion systems. You will implement high-performance DC commutation, distributed control architectures, and real-time embedded software tightly integrated with electronics, sensors, and actuators.

The role bridges advanced control theory with real-time execution, delivering robust, low-latency control, system bring-up, tuning, and validation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Controls Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of embedded software and controls experience.
• Strong expertise in real-time embedded programming (C/C++ required) and control theory.
• Experience with multi-axis motion control and high-performance servo systems.
• Experience implementing digital control loops on MCU/SoC/FPGA.
• Demonstrated ability to translate control theory to embedded software.

Responsibilities

• Design real-time embedded control software for levitation systems, including DC commutation algorithms.
• High-bandwidth closed-loop control for precision positioning.
• Distributed control coordination across multiple nodes and processors.
• Translate control models into efficient embedded software and sensor fusion.
• Deterministic real-time execution on embedded platforms.
• Lead system bring-up, tuning, and validation.
• Collaborate with controls, electrical, mechanical, and system teams.
