Job summary

The National Robotics Engineering Center at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to contribute to groundbreaking robotics systems. You will design, test, analyze, and lead electromechanical subsystems, while mentoring junior engineers and presenting results to sponsors.

Responsibilities include CAD modeling, prototyping, subsystem integration, and field-test support, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering with 6+ years of experience or MS with 3+ years.
  • Proven track record developing complex mechanical systems.
  • Technical writing experience and strong organizational skills.
  • Independent judgment and problem-solving abilities; strong communication.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research, design, develop, and test electromechanical systems for robotic applications.
  • Apply engineering design process from conceptualization to prototype development and validation.
  • Model, analyze, and simulate electromechanical systems to verify performance.
  • Lead design efforts for electromechanical subsystems and integrate components.
  • Develop CAD models and drawings of assemblies and systems; perform light fabrication.
  • Document analyses, design; build test reports and present to sponsors.
  • Travel to support field experiments and off-site test programs.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.
