Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s National Robotics Engineering Center is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the design of groundbreaking robotics systems. The role encompasses design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and integration of electromechanical components within interdisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of related experience in engineering
  • Proven track record in developing mechanical systems
  • Effective organizational, planning, and analytical skills
  • Independent judgment and problem-solving abilities
  • 3D modeling experience (SolidWorks preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform research, design, develop, and test electromechanical systems for robotic applications
  • Apply engineering design process from conceptualization to prototype development and validation
  • Perform modeling, analysis, and simulation of electromechanical systems
  • Develop CAD models and drawings of electromechanical assemblies and systems
  • Perform light fabrication, subsystem assembly, and integration of subsystems
  • Formulate and perform electromechanical system tests
  • Document analyses, design, and build test reports
  • Travel to support field experiments and off-site test programs
  • Interact with and present to customers and work with subcontractors and vendors of technology
  • Other duties as assigned
