Job summary

Novanta Inc. is seeking a Senior Electromagnetics Design Engineer to lead the design of high‑performance inductive position sensors and encoders as well as electric motors. You will act as a technical leader across both disciplines, guiding projects and mentoring engineers while evaluating emerging technologies.

You’ll collaborate with PMO, hardware, firmware, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust, compliant sensor and motor solutions that meet performance and reliability requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; 8+ years in electromagnetic sensor or motor design.
• Experience with inductive sensing and/or motor design; cross-training is a plus.
• Proficient with EM FEA and CAD tools and PCB integration.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of inductive position sensors and encoders; from concept through production release.
• Optimize sensor geometries and motor magnetic circuits using EM FEA to meet accuracy and torque targets.
• Validate sensor and motor designs via prototype tests and data correlation across operating conditions.
• Develop roadmaps for sensing and motor product lines; evaluate emerging technologies.
• Lead design of electric motors (BLDC/PMSM/induction) from concept to release.
• Ensure compliance with UL/CE/IEC/NEMA standards and internal safety requirements.
• Own project planning and cross-functional collaboration to meet cost and schedule.
