Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead electromagnetic design activities for high-performance power equipment. You will own EM subsystems end-to-end on a small, high-output team and drive robust designs from concept sizing through hardware release.

You will perform finite element analysis with ANSYS Maxwell, JMAG, or Motor-CAD, correlate electromagnetic-thermal models, analyze losses and flux distribution, and generate design documentation for

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in electromagnetic design of electric machines or power equipment.
  • Proficiency with electromagnetic FEA tools (ANSYS Maxwell, JMAG, Motor-CAD) or equivalents.
  • Strong fundamentals in electromagnetics, materials, core steels, magnet grades, and insulation systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required U.S. security clearance/access.
  • Experience with coupled electromagnetic-thermal-structural analysis.
  • Experience in aerospace, energy, or regulated/high-reliability industries preferred.

  • Collaborate with mechanical, power conversion, and controls engineers.
  • Generate design documentation, drawings, and specifications.
  • Support prototype build, testing, and validation.

Job description

  • Perform electromagnetic design and sizing of core electromagnetic components
  • Design magnetic circuits and select materials including magnetic steels, permanent magnets, and insulation systems
  • Conduct detailed electromagnetic finite element analysis to predict performance, losses, and flux distribution
  • Develop and correlate coupled electromagnetic-thermal models for transient and steady-state component temperatures
  • Analyze fault and off-nominal performance and support protection/coordination requirements
  • Generate design documentation, drawings, and specifications for procurement and manufacturing
  • Support prototype build, instrumentation planning, first-build testing, and validation
  • Collaborate with mechanical, power conversion, and controls engineers on integrated system design
  • Identify and resolve design risks using data and analysis
  • Support the full development lifecycle from concept sizing and detailed design through analysis correlation, first-build testing, and field support
  • Own electromagnetic design subsystems end-to-end on a small, high-output team
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, plus 8+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in electromagnetic design of electric machines or electromagnetic power equipment
  • Proficiency with electromagnetic FEA tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, JMAG, Motor-CAD, or equivalent
  • Strong fundamentals in electromagnetics and materials, including core steels, magnet grades, and insulation systems
  • Experience taking a design from concept through detailed design and into hardware
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required government security clearance/access, as applicable
  • Experience with coupled electromagnetic-thermal-structural analysis
  • Ability to comply with U.S. export control regulations; may require U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status
  • Ability to work in an office and lab/manufacturing environment
  • Ability to stand, bend, lift up to 25 lbs, and use PPE
  • U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted U.S. refugee/asylee
  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a power/electromagnetics focus preferred
  • Experience with high-performance or high-reliability electromagnetic equipment preferred
  • Familiarity with industry electromagnetic equipment design and testing standards preferred
  • Hands-on equipment testing and validation experience preferred
  • Experience in aerospace, energy, or other highly regulated/high-reliability industries preferred
  • Standard background check required
