Job summary

F&C Engineers in Denver seeks a Senior Electrical Project Engineer to lead behind-the-meter power-generation projects for industrial, commercial, data-center, oil and gas, and other mission-critical facilities.

The role develops safe, reliable electrical systems integrating onsite generation with facility infrastructure and the utility grid, including engines, gas turbines, CHP, energy storage, microgrids, and substations; you will coordinate with clients, utilities, equipment manufacturers,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain licensure within an agreed timeframe.
  • Typically 10 or more years of electrical engineering experience involving power generation, industrial power systems, substations, utilities, or distributed energy projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems.
  • Experience integrating onsite generation with existing facilities and utility electrical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical protection, controls, grounding, equipment ratings, system studies, and safe operating practices.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and applicable utility interconnection requirements.
  • Experience developing construction-ready engineering documents and technical equipment specifications.
  • Ability to lead complex projects and coordinate multiple engineering disciplines, vendors, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and client-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to travel periodically to client facilities, equipment suppliers, construction sites, and commissioning locations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical engineering activities for behind-the-meter generation, distributed energy, microgrid, and industrial power projects.
  • Develop project electrical design criteria, technical specifications, scope documents, equipment requirements, and engineering deliverables.
  • Prepare and review single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, load lists, equipment layouts, grounding plans, and installation details.
  • Perform or oversee load-flow, short-circuit, protective-device coordination, arc-flash, motor-starting, grounding, harmonic, and transient studies.
  • Engineer the integration of onsite generation with existing facility electrical systems, utility services, substations, and distribution equipment.
  • Develop generation paralleling, synchronization, load-sharing, islanding, load-shedding, black-start, and utility-interconnection philosophies.
  • Specify major electrical equipment, including generators, transformers, switchgear, switchboards, motor-control centers, variable-frequency drives, protective relays, UPS systems, DC systems, and energy-storage equipment.
  • Develop electrical protection and control philosophies for utility-parallel and islanded operating modes.
  • Coordinate SCADA, plant control systems, generator controls, metering, communications, and energy-management systems.
  • Support utility interconnection applications, technical studies, relay requirements, metering requirements, and commissioning coordination.
  • Ensure designs comply with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, utility standards, and local codes.
  • Coordinate electrical design interfaces with mechanical, civil, structural, instrumentation and controls, and process engineering disciplines.
  • Serve as the primary electrical technical contact for clients, vendors, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Review vendor drawings, equipment submittals, calculations, data sheets, and factory-test procedures for technical compliance.
  • Develop engineering estimates, project schedules, staffing plans, and electrical work-hour forecasts.
  • Monitor project scope, schedule, budget, technical quality, and change management throughout execution.
  • Provide technical support during procurement, construction, startup, energization, and commissioning.
  • Participate in factory acceptance testing, field inspections, commissioning activities, and performance testing.
  • Review field conditions, resolve technical issues, respond to RFIs, and evaluate contractor change requests.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while promoting consistent engineering standards and quality-control practices.
  • Conduct interdisciplinary reviews, constructability reviews, and formal electrical QA/QC checks.
  • Support proposals, technical presentations, project development, and client relationship activities.
