The Senior Electrical Project Engineer within the Development Engineering team supports the engineering team in managing engineering requests for all projects in development. This role involves electrical design support for solar, energy storage, and other renewable technology projects, including due diligence, siting, feasibility studies, technology evaluation, RFI support, proposal evaluation, conceptual design, design review, and CAPEX estimates. Familiarity with solar PV modules, batteries, combiner boxes, inverters, transformers, and collection systems is required. The role also promotes environmental stewardship and safety culture, with additional support to operating facilities as needed.
Main Accountabilities:
- Support development projects with electrical engineering queries until project PPA approval.
- Provide PV/MV engineering support to Solar and Storage Development Engineering groups.
- Participate in all phases of electrical design, including siting, routing, interconnection studies, and agreements.
- Create conceptual and detailed electrical designs and diagrams using AutoCAD and ETAP.
- Ensure electrical estimates are optimized for project layouts and operability.
- Review and interpret design documents and maintain a library of templates.
- Analyze engineering problems and propose solutions efficiently.
- Conduct value-engineering and maintain project scope, guidelines, and schedules.
- Participate in project meetings and review interconnection documents.
- Assist in overseeing third-party consultants and participate in utility meetings.
- Coordinate between engineering and other departments to facilitate project development.
- Maintain databases and reports to streamline processes.
- Update technical knowledge through education and professional engagement.
- Support early-stage electrical studies and technical documentation for RFI/RFP processes.
- Review RFI responses and update CAPEX estimates accordingly.
- Support technical review of IM&A projects and implement industry best practices.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 3-5 years of planning, design, and engineering experience, preferably in renewable energy and power utility sectors.
- Knowledge of industry standards (NEC, IEEE, NESC, ANSI).
- Understanding of electrical engineering aspects and power system software.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, and/or Primavera.
- Familiarity with ProjectWise is a plus.
