Job summary

Loudoun County is seeking a Chief Electrical Inspector to lead the Electrical Section within the Department of Building and Development in Leesburg, VA. This role requires managerial skill, technical knowledge of electrical codes, and the ability to coordinate reviews with contractors, professionals, and staff.

The ideal candidate will oversee inspections, provide expert guidance on complex issues, mentor staff, manage performance, and support budget and training initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Management, or related field.
• Two years of related work experience with one year of supervisory experience.
• Must obtain and maintain state certifications as Residential and Commercial Electrical Inspector and Electrical Plans Examiner within 6 months of hire.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Manages daily operation of inspections for the 15-member electrical section; oversees technical and administrative aspects of the Electrical Section.
• Coordinates and facilitates inspection meetings with contractors, design professionals, owners/applicants, and third party agencies to resolve issues.
• Provides technical training on new construction techniques and on current codes and ordinances.
• Provides code expertise and consultation to staff, contractors, engineers, architects, owners/applicants, attorneys.
• Responds to customer service inquiries related to the electrical provisions of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.
• Supports the Building Official in budget, training schedules, and special projects related to Virginia USBC administration.
• Manages staff performance, conducts appraisals, ensures training and certifications are current; communicates challenges with staffing/workload.
• Shares responsibility with Building Official for training, plans review workflow coordination.
• Supports Permit Issuance Division counter staff.
• Assists Program Administrators on FOIA and LEx requests.
