Job summary

New York City Department of Transportation is seeking an Administrative Inspector (Electrical) to oversee a citywide team responsible for electrical inspections of illuminated traffic control and street lighting devices.

The role includes managing maintenance operations, leading monthly meetings, and ensuring compliance with department specifications. A strong background in electrical systems, supervision, and project coordination is essential.

Qualifications

• Seven years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician, designer, or inspector of electrical installations for light, heat and/or power distribution, traffic signals, fire alarm detection or communication systems, at least eighteen months of which must have been in a managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity
• Five years of experience as described in the first item, at least 18 months in a managerial/administrative capacity and either 60 credits towards a degree in electrical engineering/technology or two years of full-time training in electrical program
• Completion of an apprentice program at least three years in length in electrical trade or inspection, with further experience as described
• A license as a professional engineer or registered architect with at least two years of experience as described
• Education/experience equivalent to items above with at least two years of managerial/administrative experience

Responsibilities

• Oversee a citywide team of Electrical Inspectors for a comprehensive electrical inspection program
• Oversee maintenance operations for traffic and street lighting systems across five boroughs
• Run monthly streetlight and traffic maintenance meetings and inspect art cases
• Coordinate and inspect attachments by authorized users of equipment under NYCDOT authority and sign off on payments
