Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support operation, maintenance, reliability, and modernization of traction power conversion facilities and coordinate maintenance at utility-owned conversion facilities across the Northeast Corridor. You will lead capital improvement projects and provide technical leadership for traction power equipment and infrastructure.

This role requires coordinating with Electric Traction Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Design, and external utility

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• 6 years of relevant experience required.
• 8+ years of relevant experience preferred.
• Experience with NERC, IEEE, NFPA 70E and utility industry standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute capital improvement and maintenance programs for traction power conversion equipment.
• Manage and report project performance including scope, schedule, budget, forecasting, risk mitigation, and resource planning.
• Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for substation electrical equipment and frequency converter systems.
• Lead technical investigations and root cause analyses of traction power system failures and outages.
• Provide technical training to employees on maintenance and troubleshooting of frequency converters and ancillary equipment.
• Perform field audits and ensure compliance with engineering practices and policies.
• Ensure safe execution of maintenance, testing, commissioning and capital project activities.
• Provide leadership on electrical safety practices and emergency response.
• Collaborate with Electric Traction Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Design and external utility partners.
• Respond to emergency calls involving the traction power frequency converters.
