Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in North Kingstown, RI seeks Principal level engineers to lead second-shift deck plate construction for VIRGINIA/COLUMBIA Class submarines. Role focuses on engineering documents, Change Requests, and technical support to ensure on-schedule ship construction.

Ideal candidates have 15+ years of post-graduate experience, DoD clearance eligibility, and strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or Aerospace Engineering (Required).
• 15+ years of post-graduate engineering experience (Required).
• Experience with submarine systems, components, or structures (Required).
• Experience with mechanical/structural/piping design, evaluation, and construction (Required).
• Experience with trouble-shooting and technical problem solving (Required).
• Experience with task or project management (Required).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD secret clearance (Required).
• Experience with deck-plate engineering construction support (Preferred).
• Dispositioning Engineering Reports or Change Notices (Preferred).
• Knowledge of VIRGINIA/COLUMBIA Class ship design and arrangement (Preferred).

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for second shift construction activities for VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class.
• Perform deck plate engineering in forms such as Change Requests, Change Notices, UNSATs, and Engineering Reports to support schedule and ship out.
• Support manufacturing operations and verify as-built dimensions and configurations, with process-improvement implementations.
