Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer electrical systems for utility-scale and distributed renewable energy projects, including solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
• Perform detailed electrical calculations, including load flow, short-circuit analysis, and grounding design.
• Develop single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and interconnection studies.
• Ensure designs comply with grid codes, national electrical standards, and client requirements.
• Provide technical support during the procurement, construction, and commissioning phases of projects.
• Collaborate with external stakeholders, including grid operators and equipment manufacturers.
• Conduct technical due diligence for potential project acquisitions or investments.
• Analyze and optimize the performance of existing renewable energy assets.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of technical standards and best practices.
• Effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines in a remote work environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in the design and engineering of electrical systems, with a specific focus on renewable energy (solar PV, BESS).
• Proficiency in power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, PVSyst).
• Strong understanding of AC/DC power systems, power electronics, and grid integration challenges.
• Knowledge of relevant South African grid codes and regulations.
• Experience with HV/MV equipment and substations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Proven ability to work autonomously and manage projects effectively in a remote setting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) is a significant advantage.
