Job summary

Butcher Power Products in California seeks a Sr. Electrical Engineer (R&D) to lead electrical design, testing, and certification of low/medium voltage power distribution products.

The role partners with cross-functional teams to ensure safety, reliability, and manufacturability while building repeatable design models. The candidate will guide complex projects from concept to production, develop specifications, and mentor junior engineers within a growing engineering group.

Qualifications

• BSEE or equivalent in experience.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience with NRTL evaluation, testing, and certification processes.
• Familiarity with relevant electrical standards (UL, NEC, ANSI, IEEE).
• AutoCAD or similar for electrical diagrams and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design for power and control on new product development projects from initiation through production.
• Write detailed electrical engineering specifications and create schematics, wiring drawings, and BOMs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including commercial, mechanical, and CAD stakeholders.
• Define product evaluation and certification scope with NRTLs and establish qualification paths.
• Develop test plans and conduct full-load, dielectric, BIL, and short-circuit tests.
• Support testing at in-house and external labs and revise designs based on data.
• Develop design criteria, calculators, and reusable models; enable CPQ and modular designs.
• Ensure Design for Manufacturability throughout development and assist with production integration.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to Sales and Project Management.
• Travel up to 20% for testing and product development tasks as needed.
