Job summary

Kohler Coating, Inc. is seeking an experienced electrical design lead to drive the electrical architecture for custom industrial machinery.

You will own power distribution, control architecture, and component selection while guiding designers and drafters through concept to commissioning. You will collaborate with mechanical engineers to integrate electrical requirements, ensure NEC/NFPA 79/UL 508A compliance, and support FAT and site troubleshooting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 5+ years designing electrical control systems for industrial machinery.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 79, UL 508A.
• Experience specifying VFDs, servo systems, and safety devices/circuits.
• Ability to work directly with customers on technical requirements and troubleshooting.
• Strong leadership and communication skills; able to review others' work.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for machine builds: control panel architecture, power distribution, motor control, and safety circuits.
• Develop and review schematics, panel layouts, and I/O lists for accuracy and manufacturability.
• Select and specify electrical components (drives, motors, PLCs, safety devices, power supplies).
• Collaborate with mechanical engineering to integrate electrical/controls requirements into machine design.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 79, UL 508A and applicable standards.
• Perform load calculations, short-circuit/arc-flash analysis, and panel sizing.
• Support PLC/HMI programming teams with hardware and I/O coordination.
• Review and approve drawings produced by designers/drafters.
• Support FAT, commissioning, and troubleshooting on shop floor and customer sites.
• Provide technical mentorship to designers and drafters.
