Principal Electrical Engineer – Electronics & Embedded Hardware
Location: Portsmouth, NH | On-site
RaisaHR is recruiting on behalf of a growing technology manufacturer developing advanced, ruggedized products for demanding environments. We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to take a technical leadership role in the design and development of next-generation electronic and embedded hardware products.
This is a highly hands-on position for an experienced engineer who enjoys owning designs from concept through prototype, testing, debugging, and production. You’ll work alongside mechanical, embedded software, systems, and product development teams to integrate advanced electronics, processing technologies, power management, and communications into compact, high-performance products.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the electrical and electronics design of complex new products from requirements through production.
- Design electronic assemblies, including schematic capture, component selection, PCB/PCBA design, layout, and routing.
- Develop and integrate embedded power supplies, power-management solutions, processors, sensors, and communications technologies.
- Design and validate high-speed digital interfaces, including technologies such as MIPI and LVDS.
- Build, test, troubleshoot, and debug prototypes and production-intent hardware.
- Perform hands-on board-level testing, including probing, soldering, component replacement, and prototype modifications.
- Analyze test data and use findings to identify issues and improve designs.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, embedded software, systems, and industrial design engineers to resolve product-level trade-offs.
- Develop technical specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), BOMs, test procedures, and engineering documentation.
- Participate in design reviews and DFx activities to ensure products can be manufactured reliably and cost-effectively.
- Work directly with external suppliers and PCBA manufacturing partners.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on electronics-related decisions.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and lessons learned.
- Lead technical work packages and coordinate activities across internal engineers, contractors, suppliers, and vendors.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Approximately 10+ years of relevant electronics/hardware product development experience, with the technical depth to operate at a senior or principal level.
- Strong experience with schematic capture and PCB/PCBA design and layout.
- Experience designing electronics that have progressed beyond prototypes into manufactured physical products.
- Strong understanding of high-speed digital signals and interfaces, such as MIPI and LVDS.
- Experience with embedded power supplies, power management, and PMICs.
- Experience integrating modern processors, compute platforms, or other advanced embedded technologies.
- Working knowledge of communication protocols such as I2C, serial communications, and similar interfaces.
- Strong hands-on electronics skills, including board bring-up, testing, debugging, soldering, and prototype modification.
- Ability to work with software and embedded teams to facilitate hardware testing and system integration.
- Experience developing technical specifications, engineering test plans, and product documentation.
- Understanding of design for manufacturing, assembly, testability, and reliability.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to independently own complex technical problems while collaborating effectively across engineering disciplines.
- Experience with Altium Designer, ruggedized electronics, compact/wearable systems, advanced compute technologies, or products designed for demanding operating environments would be particularly valuable.
Why Join?
This is an opportunity to have significant technical ownership over sophisticated products that combine electronics, embedded computing, power management, mechanical design, and software.
Rather than working on one small piece of a larger system, you’ll have visibility across the full product development lifecycle and play a key role in determining how new technologies are designed, integrated, tested, and ultimately brought into production.
The position is on-site in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and is best suited to an engineer who enjoys being close to the hardware; designing, building, testing, debugging, and solving difficult technical problems alongside the broader engineering team.
