Job summary

HED in Detroit is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to take ownership of design, calculations, and documentation from concept through construction. You will lead design development, perform load calculations, and coordinate with architects, structural, and MEP teams using Revit.

This role emphasizes mentorship, QAQC, client interaction, and early-phase design strategy, with a hybrid work model and opportunities to contribute to complex crime lab and healthcare facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required.
• P.E. licensure is required.
• 5+ years in the AEC industry with experience developing electrical solutions for labs or similar facilities preferred.
• Proficiency with Revit is required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work under deadlines and collaborate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Lead design development and electrical calculations for assigned systems across schematic, design development, and construction document phases.
• Perform lighting and power load calculations, feeder sizing, short circuit studies, and NEC compliance checks.
• Prepare technical documentation including system descriptions, equipment schedules, and redline markups.
• Develop and review electrical layouts in Revit and coordinate with architectural/structural teams.
• Coordinate electrical design with internal disciplines and external consultants to resolve conflicts.
• Review RFIs and submittals and support senior engineers as needed.
• Perform field verification and participate in construction observation visits.
• Mentor electrical designers and interns on software use and documentation standards.
• Participate in meetings and assist with agendas, minutes, and follow-up documentation.
