Job summary

Harley Ellis Devereaux (HED) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to join our Detroit/Chicago hybrid team. The role focuses on ownership of mechanical design tasks from concept through construction, including calculations, code research, QAQC, and cross-discipline coordination.

Candidates should have a Bachelor's in mechanical engineering and a P.E. licensure, 5+ years in the AEC industry, Revit proficiency, and strong communication and mentoring abilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
• P.E. licensure is required.
• 5+ years of experience in the AEC industry preferred.
• Candidates must be able to go to either our Chicago or Detroit office in a hybrid schedule (required).
• Strong communication and organizational skills; detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Lead design development and calculations for mechanical systems across schematic, design development, and construction document phases.
• Independently perform mechanical design tasks including load calculations, equipment sizing, controls sequences, and code compliance checks.
• Prepare technical documentation for mechanical systems and coordination across disciplines.
• Develop and review mechanical system layouts in Revit (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) in coordination with architectural/structural backgrounds.
• Engage in internal QAQC processes and peer reviews of drawings and documentation.
