Job description

Flexnode is the industrialized platform for AI infrastructure, engineered for distributed inference at scale. We bring a manufacturing and logistics approach to confront the largest capital deployment in peacetime history, where traditional construction methods cannot keep up. We value forward-thinking, comfort in finding new solutions to new challenges, autonomous ownership, rigorous organization, open feedback, and strong collaboration as we help shape the future of AI infrastructure.

Position Summary

As Flexnode’s Senior Electrical Engineer, you’ll serve as the owner-side technical lead for electrical systems across Flexnode’s high-density AI and HPC data center deployments. You’ll define and maintain the electrical architecture for the NX platform and guide its implementation from initial site diligence through commissioning and operational handoff.

This role is suited to a creative, technically grounded problem solver who can move between detailed electrical systems and facility-level infrastructure strategy. You’ll provide technical direction to engineering consultants and work with Flexnode’s Product and Growth teams, project managers, executives, customers, utilities, manufacturing and construction partners to align product, site, reliability, and execution requirements. You’ll turn project-specific decisions into consistent, scalable improvements to the Flexnode product.

Responsibilities
  • Define and maintain the NX electrical architecture for high-density AI workloads, including utility service, medium- and low-voltage distribution, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, generators, grounding, protection, controls, and power monitoring; develop the associated design criteria, basis-of-design documents, single-line diagrams, and equipment requirements.
  • Translate customer, site, utility, workload, and reliability requirements into electrical scopes and technical decisions, coordinating interfaces with mechanical, controls, modular, civil, and operational systems.
  • Serve as Flexnode’s technical lead in coordinating electrical engineering consultants and delivery partners, aligning technical scopes, interfaces, deliverables, and open decisions; review designs for safety, code compliance, reliability, constructability, maintainability, cost, schedule, and product alignment, and participate in technical workshops, testing, commissioning, energization, troubleshooting, and turnover.
  • Evaluate candidate sites and support utility coordination related to electrical capacity, service configuration, interconnection, substations, required upgrades, power quality, permitting, capital requirements, energization sequencing, and schedule risk.
  • Own the electrical interfaces between factory-built modules and site-installed infrastructure, turning project decisions and lessons learned into repeatable standards, connection requirements, checklists, and product improvements.
  • Provide technical input to project schedules, cost models, procurement strategies, and execution plans; support Supply Chain with equipment selection, vendor and submittal reviews, procurement specifications, and resolution of long-lead equipment issues.
  • Provide clear electrical assumptions, technical responses, and diligence materials to Growth, customers, utilities, investors, partners, and leadership.
Required Qualifications / Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; equivalent relevant work experience may be considered.
  • 5-7 years of electrical engineering experience supporting data centers, mission-critical or industrial facilities, modular construction, utility infrastructure, or other high-reliability environments.
  • Experience with medium- and low-voltage distribution and substantial working knowledge of utility service, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, generators, grounding, protection, controls, and power monitoring.
  • Experience developing and reviewing single-line diagrams, equipment schedules, specifications, submittals, load calculations, protection studies, and other electrical design documentation.
  • Understanding of redundancy, continuous maintainability, commissioning, energization, power quality, and critical-facility operations.
  • Ability to review multidisciplinary designs, identify technical gaps and interface risks, and clearly communicate their implications for reliability, cost, schedule, constructability, and operations.
  • Experience coordinating with engineering consultants, utilities, equipment suppliers, factory partners, construction teams, commissioning providers, and customers.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes, safety requirements, and industry standards.
  • Working knowledge of electrical design, modeling, and documentation in Revit; familiarity with SolidWorks, Rhino, FabMEP, or related tools is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical workshop leadership and clear design documentation.
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable establishing technical standards in a fast-moving startup environment.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites, partner facilities, customer meetings, and factories as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Professional Engineer license or progress toward licensure.
  • Experience with electrical infrastructure for AI, high-density compute, colocation, telecommunications, semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, or liquid-cooled facilities.
  • Experience with design for manufacture and assembly, prefabrication, factory production, or modular building systems.
  • Experience with utility interconnection, distribution-level service, substations, large-load projects, or behind-the-meter generation and energy-storage systems.
  • Experience with commissioning, startup, energization, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, or field troubleshooting.
  • Experience working in a fully remote, cross-functional team.
  • Experience with EPC firms, general contractors, engineering consultants, factory partners, utilities, or electrical equipment manufacturers.
  • Familiarity with ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar power-system analysis tools.
  • Experience supporting customer or investor diligence, technical sales, product development, or infrastructure partnerships.
  • Experience working in a fully remote, cross-functional team.
