Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Electrical Engineer to lead design teams across commercial, educational, healthcare, and industrial facilities. You will manage design through construction, ensuring CAD integrity, vendor coordination, and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities include developing specifications, reviewing drawings, preparing cost proposals, and mentoring junior engineers. Travel up to 25% may be required, with multiple locations including US-VA and US-NC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program with minimum 3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical or related Engineering Technology from ABET accredited program and FE exam with minimum 3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
• Master's degree in electrical engineering with minimum 2 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
• Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
• Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
• Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs and other analysis programs.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
• Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Prepare electrical equipment: specifications, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
• Review vendor drawings and data interfaces with suppliers, clients, and other disciplines.
• Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget staffing and construction planning; manage change orders.
• Apply expert knowledge of electrical concepts, codes, and procedures.
• Develop non-standard design solutions for complex projects.
• Quality review production drawings and related data across CAD software.
• Coordinate construction administration with field personnel; resolve installation issues.
• Lead field inspections, measurements, and calculations for clients.
• Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
• Build relationships with clients and contractors; identify new business opportunities.
• Ensure customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
• Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
• Lead development of cost proposals and qualification statements; manage project budgets and performance reports.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to electrical engineering team; QA/QC adherence.
• Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines; ensure safety policies.
