Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for Detroit, MI to lead electrical design and delivery for a diverse commercial portfolio

You will develop construction documents, coordinate with architects and engineers, perform field assessments, and guide junior staff while ensuring compliance with NEC and applicable codes. This role emphasizes sustainable building solutions and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering or related discipline.
• 5–7 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in the design of building systems.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain licensure in the near term.
• Proficient in NEC and building/energy codes; knowledge of electrical distribution, lighting, emergency power, fire alarm systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical engineering design and analysis for building systems projects.
• Develop construction documents, specifications, calculations, and technical reports.
• Design power distribution, lighting, emergency power, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
• Coordinate designs with architects, owners, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support project managers in meeting schedules, budgets and quality objectives.
• Use Revit and BIM tools to develop and coordinate project designs.
• Conduct field investigations and site visits.
• Assist with construction administration, RFIs, submittals, and project closeout.
• Review work for compliance with codes and client requirements.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
• Support technical excellence and continuous improvement efforts.
