Job summary

Widseth Smith Nolting and Associates Inc is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design building electrical systems across commercial, educational, healthcare, industrial, and municipal projects. You’ll develop docs, perform distribution and lighting design, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams from concept to construction.

The role requires a PE license with the possibility to obtain ND licensure within six months, 7+ years’ experience, and strong communication with clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• MN PE license with ability to obtain ND licensure within six months.
• 7+ years of experience designing electrical building systems.
• Experience with commercial, institutional, industrial, or municipal building projects.
• Proficient with Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA, IBC, IEEE and other codes.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative environment.
• Excellent communication and client service skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for commercial, educational, healthcare, industrial, and public-sector building projects.
• Develop construction documents including plans, specs, calculations, and reports.
• Perform power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage system design.
• Coordinate designs with architects, contractors, owners, and other engineering disciplines.
• Conduct site visits, field investigations, and construction observations.
• Collaborate with project managers to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
• Apply codes and standards to ensure safe, reliable designs.
• Assist with project proposals, client meetings, and technical presentations.
• Provide guidance and support to junior engineering staff and EITs.
