Job summary

Widseth is seeking an Electrical Engineer in Minnesota with 7+ years of experience to design building electrical systems across commercial, educational, healthcare, and industrial projects.

You will develop construction documents, perform power and lighting design, and coordinate with architects and clients. PE license is required or must be attainable within six months; strong communication and leadership abilities are essential.

Qualifications

• Electrical engineering degree required with PE license or ability to obtain PE in MN/ND.
• 7+ years designing electrical building systems for diverse projects.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, SKM or ETAP and NEC/IBC compliance.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for various building projects (commercial, educational, healthcare, industrial).
• Develop construction documents, calculations, and reports.
• Coordinate with architects, contractors, owners and other engineers.
• Visit sites, perform field observations, manage multiple projects.
• Support proposals, client meetings, and technical presentations.
• Mentor junior engineers and EITs to support project goals.

What You'll Do

• Design electrical systems for commercial, educational, healthcare, industrial, and public-sector building projects
• Develop construction documents, including plans, specifications, calculations, and reports
• Perform power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage system design
• Coordinate designs with architects, contractors, owners, and other engineering disciplines
• Conduct site visits, field investigations, and construction observations
• Collaborate with project managers to deliver projects on schedule and within budget
• Apply applicable codes and standards to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant designs
• Assist with project proposals, client meetings, and technical presentations
• Provide guidance and support to junior engineering staff and EITs

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
• Minnesota Professional Engineer (PE) license and ability to obtain licensure in North Dakota within six months
• 7+ years of experience designing electrical building systems (adjust years as appropriate)
• Experience with commercial, institutional, industrial, or municipal building projects
• Proficiency with design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, or similar tools
• Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA, IBC, IEEE, and other applicable codes and standards
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a collaborative environment
• Excellent communication and client service skills
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed
