Job summary

BrightHire Search Partners seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our robotics and automation team in Warwick, RI. You will design and build custom test platforms for high-volume manufacturing, from PCB through final assembly.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• 3-15+ years as an Electrical Engineer in hardware/manufacturing.
• PCB design experience in Eagle, KiCad, PCB123, or similar.
• Strong analog and digital circuit analysis.
• Experience designing or adapting custom test hardware and fixtures for a circuit-board manufacturing environment, including bed-of-nails platforms and instrument control.
• Working knowledge of Python, C# or C.
• Experience with communication protocols like RS-232, RS-485, I2C, SPI.

Responsibilities

• Design and build custom test platforms.
• Design hardware and fixture systems at ICT, subassembly/module, and end-of-line levels.
• Interface custom IO, relay banks, programmers (JTAG, serial, I2C, SPI), and off-the-shelf instruments: programmable supplies, DMMs, scopes, spectrum analyzers, HiPot, programmable loads.
• Incorporate AOI / camera systems (placement, polarity, LCD calibration) and mechanical actuation where needed — solenoids or servos that press membrane keys and buttons so the circuit is proven, not just visually inspected.
• Work with Manufacturing and the team’s robotics engineer on automated handling: robots that pick boards from magazines, place them on one of several fixtures, scan barcodes, close the fixture, and route pass vs. fail.
• Write the software operators and technicians actually use.
• Develop and modify Windows GUI / application software that drives the test (historically Delphi / Pascal and C#; C++ or strong Python plus object-oriented fundamentals is a workable foundation).

Job description

We are seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer interested in working with robotics and automation. This role would be involved in reverse-engineering products and building automation at every step of the manufacturing process for large-volume production. The team owns the platform for how every board, module, and finished product, from a blank circuit board through SMT, through-hole and wave soldering, module build, final assembly, boxing, and later warranty/field returns, is tested. This means custom fixtures, instrumentation, robotics interfaces, operator software, diagnostics, and sensor creation. The engineer who builds them has to understand the circuit, the factory, and the software the operator actually uses.

What You Will Do

Required Qualifications

• Working knowledge of Python, C# or C and comfort around software.
• Experience with communication protocols like RS-232, RS-485, I2C, SPI.

Nice to have:

• Experience with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other RF technologies.
• Nice to have: Mechatronics or industrial robotics exposure (Universal Robots, AUBO, Mecademic, Cartesian, stepper/servo). A dedicated robotics engineer is on the team; you do not need to be the robot programmer, but you will design the electrical and software interfaces for those systems.
