Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking an Electrical Engineer at the Safford operation in Arizona. You will provide technical guidance for Electrical Engineering projects, develop initiatives to improve safety, efficiency, and environmental protection, and review projects to determine optimal solutions.

The role requires strong project management, knowledge of PLCs and control systems, and the ability to work with site leadership on regulatory compliance and budgeting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering with related experience.
  • Experience in electronics, PLCs, radio and control systems.
  • Ability to manage large/complex engineering projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical advice for Electrical Engineering projects across all phases.
  • Develop projects using new technology to upgrade safety, efficiency, cost controls and environmental protection.
  • Review, investigate and develop recommendations for assigned Engineering projects.
  • Manage maintenance and projects as SME on site planning/construction, expansion or modifications.
  • Advise site management on processes, practices, and regulations.

Where You Will Work

In operation since 2007, Safford operations is a zero-discharge facility and one of the most sustainable mines in the United States. The operation’s commitment to utilizing advanced technologies and sustainable practices strongly emphasizes safety and environmental stewardship. Located in southeastern Arizona, close to more than 4 million acres of national forest, employees and their families can connect with the great outdoors while fishing, rafting, hiking and more. Several educational institutions also are nearby, including a Northern Arizona University satellite campus, Eastern Arizona College, and the Gila Institute for Technology.

What You Will Do
  • Provide technical advice and guidance for all phases of Electrical Engineering projects.
  • Develop Electrical Engineering projects utilizing new technology to constantly upgrade and improve site safety, efficiencies, cost controls, quality controls and protection of the environment.
  • Review, investigate and develop appropriate recommendations regarding assigned Engineering projects
  • Manage maintenance and projects and serve as subject matter expert (SME) on large/complex site planning/construction, expansion or modifications
  • Provide guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable processes, practices, and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulations
  • Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for designated Engineering areas
  • Develop and evaluate AFE’s (Authorization for Expenditure) for capital funding requests
  • May evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
  • May represent the site on company sponsored steering committees, task forces, or teams
  • Perform other duties as required
What You Bring To Freeport
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and five (5) years of related experience in Engineering or a related field, OR
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and three (3) years of related experience in Engineering or related field
  • Working knowledge and experience in electronics, PLCs, radio communications and control systems
  • Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of Electrical Engineering with an understanding of Mechanical and Process Engineering techniques
  • Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Skill in managing large/complex Engineering projects
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written
  • Ability to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree or Professional Engineering (PE) Certification

What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently$97,000 - $138000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
