Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan in Bagdad, Arizona seeks a seasoned Electrical Engineer to lead and advise on site projects, safety, cost controls and environmental protection. The role emphasizes PLCs, control systems, and cross-disciplinary collaboration within a mining setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years related experience.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 3+ years related experience.
  • Working knowledge of electronics, PLCs, radio communications and control systems.
  • Broad knowledge of Electrical Engineering principles with mechanical/process integration understanding.
  • Ability to research difficult information and draw valid conclusions.
  • Experience managing large/complex engineering projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to implement new methods for operational improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance for all phases of Electrical Engineering projects.
  • Develop electrical projects using new tech to improve safety, efficiency, and environmental protection.
  • Review and develop recommendations for engineering projects.
  • Manage maintenance and projects; act as SME on site planning and construction.
  • Advise site management on processes and regulatory compliance.
  • Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting for engineering areas.
  • Develop and evaluate AFEs for capital funding requests.
  • May oversee vendor contracts for services and equipment.
  • Represent site on steering committees or task forces.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Where You Will Work

Looking to live in a small town with big opportunities? Our Bagdad operations in Arizona offers housing at a subsidized rate, a family-friendly atmosphere and numerous amenities including an aquatic center, golf course and fitness center. Located 100 miles northwest of Phoenix, Bagdad is home to the world's first commercial-scale concentrate leach processing facility, as well as one of the longest continuously operating solvent extraction/electrowinning plants in the world. What You Will Do
  • Provide technical advice and guidance for all phases of Electrical Engineering projects.
  • Develop Electrical Engineering projects utilizing new technology to constantly upgrade and improve site safety, efficiencies, cost controls, quality controls and protection of the environment.
  • Review, investigate and develop appropriate recommendations regarding assigned Engineering projects
  • Manage maintenance and projects and serve as subject matter expert (SME) on large/complex site planning/construction, expansion or modifications
  • Provide guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable processes, practices, and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulations
  • Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for designated Engineering areas
  • Develop and evaluate AFE’s (Authorization for Expenditure) for capital funding requests
  • May evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
  • May represent the site on company sponsored steering committees, task forces, or teams
  • Perform other duties as required
What You Bring To Freeport
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering disciplineandfive (5) years of related experience in Engineering or a related field,OR
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering disciplineandthree (3) years of related experience in Engineering or related field
  • Working knowledge and experience in electronics, PLCs, radio communications and control systems
  • Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of Electrical Engineering with an understanding of Mechanical and Process Engineering techniques
  • Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Skill in managing large/complex Engineering projects
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written
  • Ability to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree or professional engineering (PE) certification
  • Strong knowledge of MSHA and OSHA regulations
  • Familiarity with NEC and NFPA 70E standards
  • Experience in cost estimating for electrical projects
  • Experience with project financials, including S-curves and AFEs
  • Skills in developing, reviewing, and analyzing P&IDs and electrical drawings
What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $105,000-$145,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
