Job description

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is recruiting a Senior Electrical Engineer in Ogden, UT, to prepare electrical system designs for DOD and USAF projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, a can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. This role will specifically support the USAF Sentinel program Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase. U.S. Citizenship is required Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site Contract Duration: 12-month contract assignment supporting the Sentinel system in OGDEN, UTAH Proposed start date: 10/05/26 Proposed end date: 10/04/27 Pay rate: $96.00/hour Security Clearance required (This position must be filled by someone who either currently holds a security clearance or can obtain a security clearance).

Major Responsibilities:
  • This role will support design development of Electrical systems and equipment design for the Sentinel program project by preparing engineering studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Work with and mentor junior electrical engineers as well as work with other technical disciplines in a team environment.
  • Develop new design drawings using AutoCAD such as single lines, panel schedules, schematics, cable block diagrams, grounding, lightning protection, cathodic protection, and more.
  • Perform power system analysis modeling and calculations utilizing ETAP.
  • Calculations will include Load Flow, Short Circuit, Motor starting, Relay Coordination, Arc Flash.
  • Other facility calculations include lighting design using AGI 32, facility ground grid sizing utilizing ETAP, and underground cable thermal de-rating analysis utilizing ETAP.
  • Perform equipment sizing calculations such as medium voltage utility and low voltage transformers, panel boards, surge protective devices, uninterruptable power supplies and battery sizing calculations.
  • Perform circuit breaker and cable sizing calculations per NFPA 70 to include various de-rating factors.
  • Develop equipment and material specifications utilizing the software SpecsIntact.
  • Develop procurement documentation (written scopes of work) as well as perform supplier proposal evaluations.
  • Review vendor submittals and integrate information into the design.
  • Coordinate systems requirement development and verification with Systems Engineering and the client.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Possess an active security clearance or the ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs and other common computer programs.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
  • Broad knowledge of the application of Electrical engineering design principles.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems for part of, or all of, the responsibilities listed above.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, systems calculations, equipment sizing, and cable sizing.
  • Strong knowledge of power systems, load modeling, and analysis.
Preferred:
  • Preferred: Registered Professional Engineer in the USA (Electrical Engineering).
  • Preferred: Experience with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.
  • Preferred: Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.
  • Preferred: Experience in executing engineering design with SmartPlant 3D.
  • Preferred: Experience performing calculations with ETAP.
  • Preferred: Understanding of Mechanical and Process engineering discipline drawings and system calculations, as related to electrical design requirements.
  • Preferred: Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI MasterFormat specifications, or SpecsIntact.
  • Preferred: Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
