Job summary

Spectraforce Technologies seeks a Senior Electrical Designer to plan, develop, and review electrical design work, producing drawings and documentation for complex facilities.

You will coordinate technical discussions with clients, review key drawings, calculations, and bid summaries, and ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, and regulatory standards while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

Job Title: Senior Electrical Designer

Location: Ogden, UT

Duration: 12 Months

Job Summary
  • Plan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work; produce drawings and documentation; prepare design estimates for projects.
  • Coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries.
  • Resolve complex technical issues and ensure electrical designs comply with all regulations and standards.
  • Prepare 3‑D SmartPlant designs as well as 2‑D AutoCAD and SmartSketch designs to support new facility infrastructure for DOD and USAF projects.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and teamwork skills, problem‑solving abilities, a can‑do attitude, and a desire to innovate designs.
Major Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and review design work within a medium‑size electrical design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of the global business unit.
  • Produce drawings and documentation in accordance with established design scope, including design of earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing. Ensure electrical system designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Coordinate and interface as directed with the day‑to‑day technical work of electrical engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters.
  • Communicate complex technical issues and recommend solutions to upper management.
  • Facilitate technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators).
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of electrical design estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manage implementation and performance accordingly.
  • Develop Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), client design guides, appropriate Client Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs), and administrative practices.
  • Coordinate with client representatives to obtain approval on phases of work.
  • Review and approve key electrical engineering drawings, calculations, and bid summaries.
  • Mentor electrical designers and drafters by providing on‑the‑job training for professional development.
  • Support design development of electrical systems and equipment for the Sentinel project by preparing models, drawings, and evaluations in compliance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Support, coach, and train less experienced designers.
  • Model electrical rooms, equipment, cable tray, conduit, conduit duct bank, lighting, receptacles, etc. in a SmartPlant 3‑D model environment.
  • Create bill of materials and drawing installation details for the modeled items, including grounding, lightning protection, support details, using SmartSketch and AutoCAD.
  • Perform calculations utilizing AGI 32 for lighting layouts and ETAP for ground grid layouts.
  • Assist with coordination of 3‑D model activities, input, interference reconciliation, etc., with other physical related disciplines.
  • Produce drawings of interior and exterior layouts/plans/elevation views of the raceway design (conduit/cable tray/duct bank), equipment location and layout, lighting layouts, lightning protection layouts, and grounding plans.
  • Develop material specifications using SpecsIntact.
  • Coordinate with systems engineering to establish and verify design/project requirements.
  • Execute independent creative design with direction, using client and industry‑proven concepts and procedures, ensuring compliance with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Level 1: AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 10–12 years of experience or 12–14 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
  • Level 2: AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 13–15 years of experience or 14–17 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must be a United States citizen.

Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge and application of NEC code and NEMA/ANSI/IEEE Standards.
  • Experience with an electronic Cable Management System such as SETROUTE, including data input and corrections.
  • Collaboration skills with other disciplines.
  • Ability to manage conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
  • Relevant experience in drawings for electrical systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building electrical systems.
  • Hands‑on and advanced experience using SmartPlant 3‑D, SmartSketch, and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in engineering and office automation tools.
  • Broad knowledge of electrical engineering design principles.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and layouts.
  • Knowledge of client corporate guides and standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables such as drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to express technical issues clearly and concisely, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to resolve design issues independently and collaboratively with other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
  • Modeling of piping, HVAC, and mechanical equipment in a SmartPlant 3‑D model environment.
  • Previous DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA project experience and experience with quality assurance programs such as ISO‑9000.
